After a car accident, one picture is not always enough

One piece of advice that people often give after a car accident is to take a photograph. After all, you are usually required to move your vehicle out of the traffic lane if you can do so safely. Taking a photo can help to preserve evidence. For instance, if you have a shot of the collision where both vehicles are in your lane, it makes it very clear that the other driver was negligent, crossed the centerline and hit your vehicle.

Certainly, wide-angle pictures of the accident scene can be very important. But that might not be the only photo that you want to take. If possible, try to take multiple photos from different angles, some with the flash and some without, and document different details.

Injuries and damages

For example, if your vehicle suffered specific types of damage in the accident, take close-up pictures of each area that you can identify. This helps to show the ramifications of the crash if you are filing an insurance claim.

Similarly, take photos of any injuries that you or others may have suffered in the accident. You can use these, along with your medical bills, to help demonstrate the reasons why you need financial compensation. If you are suing the other driver for negligence, you need to show the exact costs that they should be responsible for.

Finally, it may be a good idea to take a picture of the other person‘s license plate, their driver’s license, their insurance information and other identifying information. You are already supposed to exchange this type of information at the accident scene, and snapping a photo is a quick and effective way to do it.

You can seek financial compensation

Have you been injured in a car accident caused by another driver? If so, you may deserve substantial compensation, so make sure you know exactly what legal steps to take.
