Mr. Petri concentrates his practice in the area of commercial, class action, and employment litigation. Throughout his career, he has represented multiple clients in a variety of types of disputes, including commercial contracts, labor and employment, physician/hospital, insurance, residential and commercial construction, and software and information technology.
Mr. Petri also has extensive experience in class actions, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in numerous types of cases, including consumer protection, insurance, and labor and employment.
Mr. Petri is an accomplished appellate practitioner. After graduating first in his class from the University of Missouri School of Law, he began his career as a clerk for the Honorable John R. Gibson of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and has practiced in the Eighth Circuit, the Missouri Court of Appeals and the Illinois Court of Appeals. He has won numerous appeals, while representing both appellants and the appellees.

Commercial Contracts
Mr. Petri obtained a summary judgment in favor of a national debt broker that was sued for several million dollars in damages relating to the broker’s alleged breach of contract and misrepresentation in brokering the sale of a debt package. Mr. Petri then obtained an appellate order affirming the summary judgment.
Mr. Petri represented executives against a company that failed to pay the executives pursuant to a stock and profit-sharing agreement. Mr. Petri assisted in the jury trial of the matter to its conclusion, in which the executives were awarded over seven figures in damages.
Employer/Employee
Mr. Petri represented an employer against an employee in a non-compete matter. Mr. Petri tried the matter to its conclusion, obtaining an injunction in favor of the employer that prohibited the employee from competing against the employer.
Physician/Hospital
Mr. Petri represented a doctor against a hospital which had terminated the doctor’s admission privileges. Mr. Petri obtained an appellate order in favor of his client on a motion to dismiss and then settled the matter on favorable terms for his client.
Insurance
Mr. Petri represented a mechanical contractor against its insurance company, when the insurance company refused to cover a large worker’s compensation settlement. Mr. Petri obtained a favorable settlement for the contractor, after filing a motion for summary judgment.
Construction
Mr. Petri represented a general contractor against the owner in a dispute over a building project. Mr. Petri obtained a seven-figure arbitration award in favor of the general contractor.
Software and Information Technology
Mr. Petri represented a software owner against a software user in which the owner maintained the user was using the software in an unlicensed manner. Mr. Petri assisted in the jury trial of the matter to it conclusion, in which the owner was awarded over $3,000,000 in damages.
Class Action
Mr. Petri defended an insurance company in a class action in which the named plaintiff alleged that the insurance company was collecting illusory premiums. Mr. Petri obtained a judgment on the pleadings in favor of the insurance company.
Mr. Petri represented plaintiff insureds who sought greater policy benefits regarding residential and commercial structural damage claims. Mr. Petri aided in defeating the defendant’s motion to dismiss and in settling the matter, on a class basis, with the insureds receiving additional policy benefits.
Appellate
Mr. Petri represented a business in a permit dispute against the Illinois Department of Transportation. Mr. Petri obtained an order from the appellate court, reversing an order from the trial court, and instructing the Department to issue a permit. Mr. Petri represented a group of farmers against a grain elevator, which asserted fraudulent and negligent misrepresentation claims against the farmers. Mr. Petri obtained an appellate order affirming the dismissal of the misrepresentation claims.
PERSONAL
When not at work, Mr. Petri enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, whether it be traveling, playing golf and tennis, or merely watching a show together. He and his family are all avid sports fans, particularly of their beloved St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues, and Mizzou Tigers. Mr. Petri also participates in youth coaching and various charitable organizations.
