Brian is a partner at Byron Carlson Petri & Kalb, LLC with a focus on commercial litigation. Brian has experience in construction litigation, insurance litigation, agriculture and crop insurance litigation and personal injury. In addition, Brian has represented municipalities in both Illinois and Missouri. Brian also has experience in appellate advocacy. Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable Michael A. Wolff of the Missouri Supreme Court.

Brian has extensive experience in representing contractors and subcontractors in construction disputes. He advises both contractors and subcontractors in drafting and negotiating contracts. If a dispute arises, Brian prosecutes and defends contractors and subcontractors in construction litigation before judges and arbitrators. He also is familiar with the mechanic’s lien laws in Illinois and Missouri. The mechanic’s lien statutes have numerous requirements and deadlines. Brian works with contractors and subcontractors in perfecting their lien rights and getting them paid for the services and materials they provide on a project.

Brian has experience in agriculture law. He represents farmers throughout Illinois and advises them on contract and property issues. He has successfully represented farmers against the area’s largest grain elevators in contract disputes. Brian has also prosecuted and defended farmers in arbitration before the National Grain and Feed Association.

Brian has extensive experience in representation of insurers in coverage litigation involving declaratory judgments, toxic torts, hazardous wastes and construction matters. In addition to litigation, he has consulted with numerous clients on issues of coverage and risk management. Brian has also represented farmers on crop insurance claims.

Brian has litigated cases in Madison and St. Clair counties in Illinois and St. Louis City and St. Louis County in Missouri. He is also licensed in the Central District and Southern District of Illinois as well as the Eastern District of Missouri.

Brian has also advised businesses regarding their corporate and litigation concerns. In addition to addressing clients' litigation concerns, he also has represented clients through alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitration.
